Everyday Creativity

Everyday creativity is a process and a way of life that consists of original and meaningful ways of experiencing the world (Richards, 2007). It can be expressed in daily life in a wide variety of human endeavors, including work, family life, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and processes that support life-long learning (Richards, 1999). Creativity is also the unique perspective that each person can bring to a situation. Self-actualized creativity fulfills one’s humanness and is the ultimate expression of a person (Maslow, 1968).

Richards (2007) used content analysis to identify 12 potential benefits of living more creatively (p. 290). Creativity can lead to being more dynamic, conscious, healthy, non-defensive, open, integrating, actively observing, caring, collaborative, androgynous, developing, and brave. There are numerous forms of expression for creativity such as using it at work, home, in relationship with others, raising children, gardening, through hobbies, sports, and reading.
